Sideoats Grama

Description

Sideoats Grama is a warm-season, native, perennial sod-forming grass found throughout most of the United States.  Its preferred habitat is slightly alkaline soils on open, rocky slopes and forest openings below 7,000 feet.  It is an important range and pasture grass and also provides forage for deer, antelope, elk, and wild turkeys.  Sideoats Grama is commonly found in association with Little Bluestem and Blue Grama.  Though not quite as palatable or resistant to grazing as Blue Grama, it produces much more volume, greens up earlier, and remains green later.  Sideoats Grama also maintains a fairly high nutrient value after it cures.  It germinates and establishes quickly compared to other warm-season grasses.
