Red Mammoth Clover
Description
Red Mammoth Clover is an introduced biennial or short-lived perennial that grows as one of two types: medium (double-cut) or mammoth (single-cut). Red clover is most frequently used for hay, pasture and soil improvement. It is a quick growing crop, easily established, and produces high quality forage. It is winter hardy in most of the US (Zone 4 and higher). Tolerance of shade allows red clover to be used effectively as a cover crop under silage corn. Red clover is capable of producing 70-150 lbs of nitrogen per acre and anywhere from 2,000 – 5,000 tons of dry matter. It is an excellent graze however there is a bloat potential for grazing ruminants (cattle and sheep) and care must be taken. Plant at 8-10 lbs/acre drilled and 10-12 lbs/acre broadcast.
