Spike Trisetum

Spike Trisetum is a cool-season, native, perennial bunch grass.  It commonly occurs in meadows and near the treeline in conifer and aspen woods, and along streams.  It is found at elevations from 5,000 to 13,500 feet where annual precipitation is greater than 18 inches.  It is extremely cold and fire tolerant.   Spike trisetum has low nutrient requirements and is moderately tolerant of both acidic and alkaline soils.  It is a good soil builder and erosion control species, and provides important forage during the growing season and into late fall.
