Galleta

Galleta is a native, warm-season, rhizomatous, sod-forming perennial grass.  It is best adapted to elevations between 3,500 and 7,500 feet and tolerates drought, moderately saline or alkaline soils, and cold temperatures.  It is an important range plant in the southwest and produces considerable forage.  Its roots are tough, woody, and up to 6 feet long, which help it resist heavy grazing and trampling.  Its roots also make Galleta a good species for erosion control.
