Sandberg Bluegrass

Sandberg Bluegrass is a native, cool season, bunch grass that is early to green up and can tolerate poor soils (but not alkali soils).  It is palatable to livestock as an early spring forage but does not produce a great deal of tonnage.  It makes a dense root mass as it matures, making it useful for erosion control.  It is a standard component in reclamation mixes.  It is considered an understory grass, filling in between other taller grasses.  It typically germinates in 1 to 3 weeks when conditions are right.  Sandberg does especially well at higher elevations (around 7,000 feet).  Varieties available include Mountain Home, Uncompahgre Plateau and VNS.
