Edgemont Highlands Subdivision Mixes

These are the official seed mixes required by the Edgemont Highlands Community Association in Durango, CO.

EDGEMONT NATIVE LAWN: This all-native grass mix includes both warm season and cool season grasses so there are some species that will remain green in both the early season and the later growing season.  The species are naturally lower growing (6” – 15”) and are considered much more drought tolerant than a typical park type lawn. They need a minimum of 15 – 18” of precipitation to thrive. These are not traditional lawn grasses and will not be as soft as the park.  The planting rate is 1 – 2 lbs/1000 sq ft.  Plant in zones 3 – 9.

  • 20% Sideoats Grama
  • 20% Blue Grama
  • 30% Sandberg Bluegrass
  • 30% Streambank Wheatgrass

EDGEMONT NATURAL LAWN: This lawn mix includes both native grasses and an introduced species (Sheep Fescue) which is a lovely fine leafed bunchgrass that is used in many drought tolerant lawns.  Because it is a bunchgrass your croquet balls might not go where you predict they will go!  The addition of Sheep Fescue makes this grass a more affordable option.  Moisture requirement are 15” – 18” of moisture and the planting rate is 1 – 2 lbs/1000 sq ft.  Plant in zones 3 – 8.

  • 10% Sideoats Grama
  • 5% Blue Grama
  • 25% Sandberg Bluegrass
  • 25% Streambank Wheatgrass
  • 35% Sheep Fescue

EDGEMONT SLOPES: This mix is designed to help hold slopes in place.  While no grass blend can hold a slope in a deluge, this has a variety of root structures to act like a natural web in the soil when it is mature.  These species need 12” – 18” of moisture and the planting rate is 2 lbs/1,000 sq ft or 20 lbs/acre.  Plant in zones 3 – 6.

  • 20% Indian Ricegrass
  • 35% Slender Wheatgrass
  • 15% Western Wheatgrass
  • 15% Thickspike Wheatgrass
  • 15% Blue Grama
