Tall Wheatgrass
Tall Wheatgrass is an introduced, long-lived, cool-season, perennial bunch grass. It produces good yields of nutritious forage but is not as palatable as other wheatgrasses. However, Tall Wheatgrass is one of the most salt tolerant grasses commercially available and can be used for pasture or erosion control on sites where few other species can survive. Tall Wheatgrass has excellent seedling vigor but is slow to establish. It is late maturing, which can help extend the grazing season. It is adapted to a wide range of soil types, elevations up to 6,000 feet, and can withstand periodic flooding. It is a good grass for erosion control along roadsides.
