Green Wheatgrass
Green Wheatgrass is a cool-season, perennial bunch grass that is a hybrid between quackgrass and bluebunch wheatgrass. It combines the drought tolerance and palatability of bluebunch with the grazing tolerance of quackgrass and is tolerant of alkaline and saline conditions. It provides good forage for cattle, sheep and horses. Green Wheatgrass provides good forage for livestock not only because of its palatability but also because its leaves stay green longer in the summer than other wheatgrasses. It withstands moderate grazing pressure and recovers quickly. Green Wheatgrass has good seedling vigor and is long-lived and winter hardy. It develops an extensive root system and can spread by rhizomes. This combination of traits make it useful in erosion control and reclamation.
