Who We Serve

Our Customers
Since 1978 we’ve been serving the seeding needs of the Four Corners and beyond. From high desert to high alpine, whether your project is a few hundred square feet or a few hundred acres, we can help! Our standard seed mixes will suit a wide range of applications in the Western States, and we also formulate custom mixes from over 200 types of seed. We grow many dryland species on our production farm out on Cahone Mesa, and provide the native mixes required by regulatory agencies and people who value the beauty, integrity and land enhancing value of native vegetation.
Who We Serve
Agriculture

Agriculture is a mainstay of the Southwest’s local economy and we are proud to be a part of this tradition. Southwest Seed carries a wide range of pasture and forage grasses for both irrigated and dryland situations as well as alfalfas and clovers to sweeten up your pastures. (We do not carry Round Up Ready Alfalfas). We also sell small grains and cover crop species for the health and productivity of your land. If your needs aren’t covered by one of our standard pasture mixes, we can also create custom mixes to your exact specifications. Our staff is happy to answer your questions and if we don’t know the answer will do our best to find the answers you need. However, we can’t make it rain, and we can’t help you actually put it in the ground!
Oil, Gas, Mining & Solar

Reclamation seeding plays a vital role in maintaining the health of public and private lands that have been disturbed. However, the regulations and specifications related to reclamation seeding are not always straightforward and can often be confusing to navigate.
That’s where we come in. With decades of experience serving the energy sector, we’re equipped to guide you to the right seed mix to satisfy the regulatory, environmental, and logistical demands of your project.
At Southwest Seed, we grow many of the native grasses and wildflowers needed for reclamation and restoration on our own production fields. We also work with a network of trusted seed producers who are experts in their craft. With an extensive selection of warm- and cool-season grasses, wildflowers, forbs, shrubs, trees, and wetland species, Southwest Seed can meet all your native and reclamation seed needs. Public Land Managers

For nearly fifty years Southwest Seed has been evolving along with the environmental and reclamation efforts to provide the service and seed needed to keep our public lands healthy and beautiful. We work extensively with Federal and State land managers to provide appropriate species, mixes and strategies for reseeding work. We source and grow locally adapted seed as possible and work with land managers and other stakeholders to propagate unusual and hard to find species indigenous to the Southwest. (Note! Many species that are hard to find are also very hard to grow and we do have some spectacular failures in that arena.)
Parks, Recreation & Landscaping

We all love the glory of a beautiful park or lawn. Kids playing, picnics, frisbees and golf. Southwest Seed provides high quality turf grasses and microclovers for that traditional lawn, such as our Centennial mix, specifically designed for Centennial Park in Cortez, CO. However, that classic ideal of a lawn requires a lot of watering and maintenance in our arid climate! So we also offer more drought tolerant turf and landscape options that best fit the natural conditions of our region, and look right at home in our southwest landscapes. Whether your project is a sports field or a wildflower filled natural area, we are here to help you find your best seed solution.
Homeowners

At some point most homeowners will find they need to do some sort of seeding project, whether for a thin lawn, a muddy hillside wanting for cover, or a septic system repair job. We’ve got seeds for that. Need to cover crop your garden beds? Dreaming of a wildflower filled meadow, or a wildlife food plot? From the new low water lawn to the pollinator garden, we can help you understand your options and get you started on the path to establishing a new planting, with specialized guidance on when and how to seed for best results. And if we can’t figure it out we can always ask either our magic 8 ball or our Seed Growing Dilemma Fish!
Our Community
After close to 50 years of business in the Four Corners region, we feel very vested in the needs and life of our home and contribute in a variety of ways to help make our local communities vibrant. Southwest Seed supports staff to get involved in local efforts through board service, participation in educational and civic events, hosting local Ag groups, and partnership with the agencies and nonprofits that strengthen our landscapes and the common good. We also provide in-kind and financial support to a number of local non-profits, civic organizations and benefit activities. We know how special this area is and appreciate our ability to operate our business here and serve our neighbors near and far.
