Growing strong since 1978

Blue Grama – Waterwise Turf

Blue Grama is an excellent drought tolerant, warm season grass that works well as a spreading turf grass.  It does not grow well at altitudes above 7,000 but up to about 6,500′ it can be a good selection.  It has fine leaves and a smooth root base.  It has a blue cast to its leaves.  Being a warm season grass, it will not germinate or green up as early in the spring as cool season grasses, however it can remain green through the hottest parts of the summer much better than many cool season grasses. If allowed to go to seed, it makes a characteristic  eyebrow shape otherwise known as a flag.  Blue Grama is the state grass for both Colorado and New Mexico.
