Canada Bluegrass

Canada Bluegrass is an introduced, perennial, rhizomatous grass that thrives in full sun or full shade. It is an early colonizer in disturbed sites and can tolerate acidic soils and poor fertility. It is used frequently for drought tolerant lawns and for erosion control on mine sites, road construction etc. It is palatable but does not produce abundant forage. It is very durable and can withstand heavy grazing and high traffic. While typically found in moist sites, it can handle droughty conditions as well. Canada Bluegrass does well with early spring plantings or late summer if there is adequate moisture. Dormant plantings work well also.  Typically takes 2 — 3 weeks to germinate after conditions are right.
